Spotify on Linux outside the UK using Tork [Updated]
by arkatPDA on May.28, 2009, under Uncategorized
Recently, many services are popping style with geographical restrictions if you are not in the UK will not let you use it! Among the interesting we Spotify a site that lets us esuchar almost all the music you want online or NBC programming lets us see if we gringolandia only.
Updated: Spotify every 14 days to notify us that we can only travel (ie ip connect from outside the UK) 14 days then we have to do at the end of the post.
It is not easy to find a proxy to access these services as we do?
Using tork can access those services and others we filtered using location based on IP.
To be able to surf anonymously and to pretend that we are sailing from USA, UK or wherever it suits us we will install a couple of programs in our kubuntu / ubuntu jaunty.
First add the repository sector for which we edit the file repository
pressing alt + f2 and we
kdesu kate /etc/apt/sources.list
and add (cut & paste) the following line
deb http://mirror.noreply.org/pub/tor jaunty main
then in a console
Add the public key
gpg --keyserver hkp://subkeys.pgp.net --recv-keys CFF71CB3AFA44BDD
gpg --export --armor CFF71CB3AFA44BDD | sudo apt-key add -
$ sudo aptitude update
$ sudo aptitude install tor tork privoxy
Then we have to edit a few files
kdesu kate /etc/privoxy/config
and uncomment (erasing the "#") the line that says
#forward-socks4a / 127.0.0.1:9050
store and execute
kdesu kate /etc/tor/torrc
uncomment the line
#ControlPort 9051
Restart the services
sudo /etc/init.d/privoxy restart
sudo /etc/init.d/tor restart
Now we can run Tork and follow the setup wizard.
In tork can set the country from which we connect and browse using firefox or konqueror.
UK as a country setting where we connect we can enter the site Spotify and create an account (you must enter a UK postcode )
On site we have the instructions for spotify spotify run with wine
To browse normally and quickly turn off power sector using our firefox you can install Torbutton
Updated: Spotify every 14 days to notify us that we can only travel (ie ip connect from outside the UK) 14 days then we have to do is Spotify preferences configure the proxy as 127.0.0.1 port 9050.
Then we connect to see that we login from UK (provided that we configure tork we connect from UK).
Spotify re-configure followed this time not to use proxy logueamos give us and we login again.
Spotify now goes for 14 days more.
Obviously you have to repeat the process every 14 days (try using spotify directly through tor but the bandwidth of the network sector it was not enough to use easily)
